THE CONSTITUTION OF RUNWAY ENVIRONMENTALISTS ORGANISATION.

PREAMBLE:

We, the runway environmentalists—

ACKNOWLEDGING the supremacy of the Almighty God:

HONOURING the efforts by the government, private institutions and individuals who are at the forefront in quest to conserve our environment:

PROUD of our ethnic and religious diversity and our joint effort to protect and maintain our rich natural resources:
                                 
RESPECTFUL of the environment, which is our heritage, and determined to
Sustain it for the benefit of future generations:

COMMITTED to nurturing the youth through mentorship activities and protecting the nation through community outreach activities:

RECOGNISING the aspirations of all Kenyan Environmental activists to have a safe environment based on their commitment and passion for positive change:


EXERCISING our inalienable right to determine the form of
Governance of our organisation and being part and parcel in the making of this
Constitution:

ADOPT, ENACT and GIVE this Constitution to ourselves and to our future
Generations.

ARTICLE I

a)     Name: The name of the association shall be “The Runway Environmentalists”
b)    Motto: Going Green
c)     Vision: To be the leading organisation on environmental conservation and empowerment of the young generation.
d)    Core Values: Integrity, commitment
e)     Mission: Using Environmental Conservation as a platform for creation of awareness of real issues among the youth while still educating them on the importance of the environment as a whole.

ARTICLE II –AIMS $ OBJECTIVES

a)     To sustain our environment for future generations.
b)    Offer mentorship to the youth and be role models.


ACTIVITIES:
·        Planting of trees.
·        Counselling and mentorship to the youth.
·        Motivation talks e.g. on careers.
·        Provision of stationery to pupils.
·        Attending fun days as a way of interacting with the youth.




ARTICLE III –MEMBERSHIP

a)     FULL MEMBERSHIP:  This shall be open to all models, undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University of Nairobi.
c)      ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP:  This shall be open to ex-University of Nairobi Students.
d)    HONOURARY MEMBERSHIP: Shall be conferred to persons who in the opinion of the association have rendered directly or indirectly outstanding services to the organisation.

ARTICLE IV- RIGHTS

FULL MEMBERS, ASSOCIATE MEMBERS AND HONOURARY MEMBERS -Shall have the right to participate fully in the functions and activities of Runway Environmentalists.

ARTICLE V-FINANCE
SECTION 1
The organisation shall derive its funds from the following sources:
       i.            SUBSCRIPTIONS:
·        Persons eligible for full membership shall pay an enrolment fee of Ksh.200. Every member shall pay an annual subscription of sh500.
·        Every associate member shall pay an annual subscription of Ksh.250
·        Subscriptions once paid shall not be refundable.

     ii.            Sale of the organisation’s publications, calendars, Tshirts.
  iii.            Donations and Grants from well wishers.
   iv.            Miscellaneous sources e.g. proceeds from social functions, interest, etc.

SECTION 2: ADMINISTRATION
a) All funds of R.E.O. shall be received by the Financial Manager who shall issue official receipts of the organisation, and all such monies shall be deposited within seven days of receipt.
b) The funds of R.E.O. shall be deposited in a bank approved by the organ of the organisation.
c) Withdrawals by cheque or otherwise shall bear the signature of the financial manager and either the President or Secretary general.
d) The funds of the R.E.O. shall be used for the following purposes:
        i.            Purchasing of sanitary towels needed for donation.
      ii.            Purchasing of tree seedlings.
    iii.            Publication of bronchures,T-shirts
   iv.            Maintenance of the organisation and allowances fee.
     v.            Communication with similar organisations both within and outside the country.



ARTICLE VI- ORGANS OF R.E.O.
The organs of R.E.O. shall be:-
        i.            The President
      ii.            The Vice-President
    iii.            Financial Manager
   iv.            Public relations Officer
     v.            Organising Secretary
   vi.            Graphics designer



ARTICLE VII-DUTIES OF THE ORGANS

THE PRESIDENT
i) Be the Executive Head of R.E.O.
ii) Be responsible for the general supervision of R.E.O.’s machinery at all levels.
iii) Have the power to convene Emergency meetings of the organisation.
iii) Have the power to make emergency decisions on matters of great urgency, and effect the same, when it is technically or physically impossible to consult the ‘executive’; provided such decisions or sections are brought to the ‘executive’ for ratification or reversal at the next meeting of the ‘executive’.

THE VICE-PRESIDENT
i) Deputise for the President in the latter’s absence.
ii) Assist the President in his/her duties.

THE SECRETARY-GENERAL
i)                   Record and keep the proceedings of the R.E.O.’s meetings.
ii)                 In consultation of the President draw up and publish the agenda for the R.E.O.
iii)               On the advice of the President call for meetings of the R.E.O.

THE FINANCIAL MANAGER
i)       Collect and receive subscriptions from members.
ii)     Receive and deposit all monies accorded to R.E.O.
iii)   Prepare balance sheets and statement accounts and submit them to the executive.
iv)   Keep R.E.O.’s account books in such a manner as the auditors shall deem fit.           

PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER
i) Effect the dissemination of all R.E.O.’s official news and information through any effective media.
ii) Be responsible for all publications of R.E.O.
iii) In conjunction and consultation with the President publicise and popularise R.E.O.
iv) Keep members of R.E.O.  informed.

ORGANISING SECRETARY
i) Research and survey areas of our interest.
ii) Come up with strategies for the preparation of events.

GRAPHICS DESIGNER
To compose and design communication and marketing material.

ARTICLE VIII-MEETINGS
        i.            The Executive shall meet as often as possible as deemed necessary by the President.
      ii.            All meetings shall be chaired by the President.
    iii.            Three clear days notice bearing the agenda for the meeting shall be given in writing to the members.
   iv.            The President may call Emergency Executive meetings when necessary.


ARTICLE IX-AMMEDMENTS
Amendments to the constitution shall be effected by a two-third majority among the executive.

ARTICLE X-INSPECTION OF ACCOUNTS AND LIST OF MEMBERS
The books of account and all documents relating to and a list of members shall be available for inspection by any officer.
